Profile

Sanjeev Abhyankar is one of the few very good Hindustani vocalists to have emerged in recent years. He is considered the standard torch bearer of the Jaipur-Mewati gharana and is one of the foremost desciples of the renowned vocalist Pt Jasraj.

Born on 5th Oct. 1969 to a musical family, he was considered a child prodigy. He had his initial training from his mother Mrs. Shobha Abhyankar. Pt Jasraj heard him as a child once and was impressed enough to offer to take him as his desciple.

Sanjeev Abhyankar accepted the offer and has trained rigorously under Punditji for about 12 years. He is endowed with a melodious voice and good range. He sings with abundant confidence and ease. For now the future of Mewati gharana seems assured with Sanjeev as the inheritor of the great tradition.
